A Very Aquatic Weekend

Greetings from Hanover. It’s been a very aqua-themed weekend, starting with an aquaponics project at the Dartmouth Organic Farm on Friday afternoon and finishing with whitewater rafting on the Deerfield River today. Saturday found most of the group paddling on the Connecticut in some way, shape, or form: canoe, kayak, or Stand Up Paddle board.

Good times were had by all, and the quiet that has fallen over Butterfield Residence Hall at this (relatively) early hour of 10:30pm is a sign of how hard everyone has been playing this weekend.

The first half of next week will find the group again in morning sustainability and leadership workshops, building an aquaponics system at the farm in the afternoons, and then in our Ecovate (short for eco-innovation) “design thinking” workshop in the early evening. After dinner tomorrow, we will have the first of our three symposia sessions, a student-led presentation and discussion on an organizational structure or concept through which positive sustainability outcomes can be affected. Monday night is Citizen Advocacy; Tuesday is Public Policy; and Wednesday is Corporate Social Responsibility.

Thursday and Friday we will be at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge for the final two nights of the program.
