Allie currently works as an educator and outdoor program coordinator at Explorations Academy, a small private high school in Bellingham, WA. When not in school, you’ll find her running the trails around the city or baking too many loaves of bread. Her career as an educator began after a series of unexpected events during her almost year long stay at Rio Muchacho Organic Farm in Ecuador, where she went from a tourism intern to a (slightly under qualified) classroom teacher for Ecuadorian students. Although she struggled as a new teacher, she fell in love with the community and the students, and has left her with a strong connection to the place. Now, she’s spent a total of about three years in Ecuador, most recently hosting tours and developing the garden and bread recipes at a chocolate factory nestled in the cloud forest. She loves working with Sustainable Summer where she gets to share her passion for exploring the outdoors, food and environmental justice, and sustainability in such an incredible country. Allie is a graduate of Willamette University, where she studied Spanish and Math, and also acted as a sustainability trip leader. Her time living abroad included one semester at the Universidad de San Francisco in Ecuador.
