Joanna Johnson

Joanna, who was born and raised in the Midwest, studied earth and environmental science at University of Illinois in Chicago and worked with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, doing conservation work, community outreach and environmental education programs. While studying tropical ecology in Costa Rica, she became determined to learn Spanish and travel, which led her to teaching math and science at a bilingual school in Honduras.

Jeff is the co-founder and Executive Director of Sustainable Summer. He is a former partner and director of Career Explorations, a summer internship program for high school students, and Vertex Academic Services, an educational consulting company. Jeff has a BA from Bucknell University and an MA from Dartmouth College.

Krystal graduated from Appalachian State University with my bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Development and Agroecology and is currently a grad student in Environmental Science. She is passionate about sustainable agriculture, food sovereignty, environmental justice, and soil science.

Alvin is a biology and chemistry graduate from the University of Washington currently living in Madrid, Spain where I’ve been working as a biology, math, and English language teacher. I’ve been involved in sustainability since high school and have continued my education in sustainable practices in local Spanish schools and programs as an educator and outdoor leader.

Annika received her degree in Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University where she focused on environmental water processes. She has experience with private and public agencies involved with environmental protection and has done research on sustainable water practices throughout her university career. Annika participated in the Sustainable Summer @ Dartmouth program while in high school.

Josh holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Humboldt State University where he teaches a wide array of courses in the communication curriculum including public speaking, persuasion theory, creating communication campaigns, communication and social advocacy, argumentation, environmental communication, and rhetorical theory.

Cathy is a Science and Environmental Service Systems (Career and Technical Education) instructor. She is a graduate of Fairfield University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She also has a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science from NJ Institute of Technology/Rutgers University- Newark. At NJIT/Rutgers and a second Master of Science degree in Urban Environmental Systems Management from Pratt Institute.
