Rio Muchacho

Buenos Dias a todos!

Our days at the Rio Muchacho Organic Farm have been filled with excitement and provided us plenty of opportunity to get our hands dirty this week!

Every morning, at dawn, we begin our day with farm routines — feeding the cows, pigs, horses, and composting worms –before enjoying a big bowl of fresh cut fruit for breakfast! We’ve had a few great lectures on different concepts relevant to permaculture and agriculture in Ecuador (such as learning about how the moon’s gravitational pull has an impact on planting and harvesting cycles as well as the history of industrial agriculture and its global impacts!). The farm has also provided us the opportunity to learn about banana circles and see how plants can have positive relationships that eliminate the need for harsh chemicals.

Our service project went really well. We cleaned the entire school playground and helped get some of the classrooms ready for an after school program that is about to start. Afterwards, we enjoyed some fresh baked cookies from the local tienda and played a game of soccer with some of the kids in the community!

Hasta pronto!
