Jo’s professional journey revolves around the intricate patterns of natural systems, positioning herself as an educator, biologist, and sustainability advocate. Working as an educator, program developer, curriculum writer, and sometimes co-conspirator with Nature herself, she has been committed to facilitating meaningful learning experiences with and for human & nature connection. Her own educational journey, with a B.S in Environmental Science and M.A. in Biology has deeply cultivated her passion for experiential learning and ecological insight.

Jo values and works towards education opportunities that are inclusive and equitable for all students. Her teaching emphasizes scientific literacy, sustainability education, and nurturing student centered learning experiences. Empowered by her interest in urban ecology and conservation biology, she extends her educational encounters beyond classrooms, into the dynamic ecosystem of urban and natural landscapes. As part of her commitment to promote environmental stewardship, she has helped develop programs that facilitate connections to nature, fueled by an insatiable curiosity for understanding values and relationships of life. In these spaces, students are invited to enter dialogues with the natural world around them, co-constructing knowledge and fostering rich learning experiences. Her experiences as an educator continually challenge her to reflect on teaching practices while at the same time reinvigorating her passion for biology and the environment.

Jo currently lives in Asheville, North Carolina, and enjoys exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, understanding local ecology through experimental farming, rock climbing, and spending time with her partner, dog, and chickens.
